During documenta fifteen, artists Hannes Egger and Thomas Sterna rented an exhibition space at KulturBahnhof Kassel and gave other artists a chance to win a one-week presentation slot. Leaving the decision up to chance rather than a panel of experts, any artist, curator or exhibition organizer interested could enter the prize draw by simply purchasing a raffle ticket. The 13 winners, selected in a total of four draws, were then free to show their works without any requirements regarding content and/or aesthetic input. But not all winners decided to exhibit their own works: Some organized group exhibitions, others gave their slot away. The results varied greatly and were surprising, often breaking with conventional notions of art and standards of evaluation.
The book, which has just been published by Distanz Verlag (Berlin), brings together not only a documentation of the 13 exhibitions but also discursive text contributions by Katinka Fischer, Hannes Egger, Hans Dieter Huber, Larissa Kikol, Farid Rakun (ruangrupa), Thomas Sterna, Dan Perjovschi and Judith Waldmann.

In occasione di documenta fifeteen, gli artisti Hannes Egger e Thomas Sterna hanno affittato uno spazio espositivo presso il KulturBahnhof di Kassel e hanno dato ad altri artisti la possibilità di vincere una settimana di presentazioni delle loro opere. Lasciando la decisione alla sorte piuttosto che a una giuria di esperti, ogni artista, curatore o organizzatore di mostre interessato poteva partecipare all’estrazione del premio semplicemente acquistando un biglietto della lotteria. I 13 vincitori, selezionati durante un totale di quattro estrazioni, sono stati poi liberi di esporre le loro opere senza alcun requisito di contenuto e/o estetico. Non tutti i vincitori hanno deciso però di esporre le proprie opere: Alcuni hanno organizzato mostre collettive, altri hanno regalato il loro spazio. I risultati sono stati molto diversi e sorprendenti, spesso in rottura con le convenzioni del mondo artistico e gli standard di valutazione.
Il libro, appena pubblicato da Distanz Verlag (Berlino), raccoglie non solo la documentazione delle 13 mostre, ma anche testi di Katinka Fischer, Hannes Egger, Hans Dieter Huber, Larissa Kikol, Farid Rakun (ruangrupa), Thomas Sterna, Dan Perjovschi e Judith Waldmann.
