In the summer of 2024, Hannes Egger was invited by the “Wanderspace” of the University of Siegen to spend several weeks in the Siegerland region (Germany), where he connected with local residents in both rural and urban areas. The starting point for his project was a collection of dishes he had brought from his home. Plates and cups served as exchange objects in return for “Siegerland” tableware. Through this exchange, the artist engaged in numerous conversations about life in the region and extended invitations to shared dinners.
The participatory happening STADT+LAND emerged from this context, in which the artist used the preparation and sharing of meals as a catalyst for deeper dialogue around the following questions: Where does Siegen begin and where does it end? What distinguishes the city from the countryside? How can the city’s edge be recognized, and what is its function? What is the relationship between urban and rural spaces in the 21st century?

Im Sommer 2024 war Hannes Egger auf Einladung des “Wanderspace” der Universität Siegen mehrere Wochen im Siegerland (D) unterwegs gewesen und hat mit der Siegener Bevölkerung auf dem Land und in der Stadt Kontakt aufgenommen. Ausgangspunkt war hierbei ein Sammelsurium an Geschirr, welches der Künstler aus seiner Heimat mitgebracht hat. Teller und Tassen dienten als Objekte zum Tausch gegen „Siegerländer“ Geschirr. Der Künstler ist dabei mit zahlreichen Menschen ins Gespräch über das Leben in der Region gekommen und hat hierbei die Einladung zum gemeinsamen Abendessen ausgesprochen.
Mit „STADT+LAND“ entstand ein partizipatives Happening, in dem der Künstler das Zubereiten von Speisen und das miteinander Essen als Anlass schafft, um den Austausch über folgende Fragen zu vertiefen: Wo beginnt Siegen und wo hört es auf? Was unterscheidet Stadt und Land? Woran kann Stadtrand erkannt werden und wozu dient er? Was ist das Verhältnis zwischen Stadt und Land im 21. Jahrhundert?
