30.10.2025 – 31.05.2026
OPENING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29 AT 6:30 PM

Opening at the Museo Nazionale della Montagna on the occasion of Torino Art Week. On Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30 pm, the exhibition THE NEW ORCHESTRA. From Mountain Communities to Communities of the Future will open.
Until 31 May 2026, six new artworks − by Hannes Egger, Olivia Mihălţianu, Rebecca Moccia, plurale, Eugenio Tibaldi and Emilija Škarnulytė – will invite us to reflect on the idea that a new sense of community could generate greater care for the environment.
This exhibition The New Orchestra. From Mountain Communities to Communities of the Future is the conclusive chapter of a long process of dialogue with six communities that live in the highlands, in five regions of the Alpine and Apennine arc: Piedmont, Valley of Aosta, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Emilia Romagna.
The project, part of the Sustainability Programme, is curated by Andrea Lerda, a curator at the Museomontagna, with the participation of Sofia Baldi Pighi, a curator and researcher, Gabriele Lorenzoni, head of the Galleria Civica Trento – curator at the Mart (Museum of modern and contemporary art of Trento and Rovereto), and Alexandra Mihali, an independent curator and artistic director of the Galeria Posibila in Bucharest.

The New Orchestra stems from the awareness that mountains – despite the difficulties of living in such places – have historically furthered the dimension of encounters, of sharing and of sociality, nurturing those feelings of togetherness, belonging and solidarity that urban-industrial societies have lost.
In a hyper-connected present, made up of digital inhabitants far from each other on an interpersonal level, The New Orchestra raises a number of questions:
What role do mountain areas play in the society of today and tomorrow?
How can these lands guide us towards a better future?
How can they become laboratories, models and testing grounds for reimagining a sense of community and living more sustainably?
On a global scale, is it possible to hypothesise that this rediscovering ourselves together could fuel a new community welfare and, consequently, a greater sense of care also towards the natural environment?
