Hannes Egger, GOGO, 2023

GOGO, 2023

In GOGO it‘s not the artist or other performers who carry out the performance, but the audience itself. The work is about ecstasy, which is understood as a reaction to and possible way out of an existential crisis. GOGO arose from the feeling that the world is on the brink of collapse. It can no longer be saved, dreams have crumbled into ruins, there seems to be no future, and the only reaction to this is ecstatic celebration.
The work mixes a pessimistic view of the world with a failed love affair, Samuel Becket‘s theatre of the absurd „Waiting for Godot“, whose protagonists Vladimir (Didi) and Estragon (Gogo) appear in the play, and the experience of a wild dance that lasts until the early hours of the morning to a recurring techno song. Where is the dawn? What emerges from the ruins of the dark night of today?
