How does YouTube’s “cabinet of curiosities” handle Performance Art videos and what does it do with them? What do users do with performances when they film them, legally or illegally, in a museum and put them on the internet or add their personal music as an audio backdrop. Some of the videos achieve enormous popularity on the “democratic” web and are clicked on hundreds of thousands of times,
while others only attract the interest of a few hundred.
The project YOUTUBE PERFORMANCE (www.youtube.com/user/YTPerformancetoday) is handling with questions like this. In a performance Hannes Egger presents the project and the new edited book “Web Performance today“.
