Les Sublimes Archive – Revolution is an exhibition of notebooks containing notes and jottings by Italian artists. It is to be held in Helsinki from 22 to 26 May 2019, at the Art Fair Suomi 2019 International Contemporary Art Festival in the FOCUS ITALIA section curated by Lorella Scacco.
‘Les Sublimes Archive’, inspired by the Parisian utopia at the end of the 19th century and the group Les Sublimes, is an archive in progress that began in 2015. It is devoted to the most pure (or impure), primary and unproductive part of artistic creation and the generation of ideas. The aim is to make available for consultation the most personal material associated with the creative process, which is rarely accessible and displayed in an exhibition. These are highly contagious, poetic, ‘bare’ ideas, that are not yet ‘work(ing)’.
On this occasions visitors will be permitted to ‘physically’ consult the notebooks and to become collectors of these most intimate materials. The notebooks exposed will also be digitized and enter the online archive les sublimes archive.
Art Fair Suomi’s theme country for the year 2019 is Italia. Focus Italia highlights Italian artists based both in Italy and Finland, creating platform for installations, performances, concerts and speaches. The organization of FOCUS ITALIA was created by Artists’ Association Muu and by the Association of Photographic Artists of Finland, in collaboration with curator Lorella Scacco and the Italian Cultural Institute in Helsinki.
Arthur Cravan Foundation, inspired by the Dadaist performer A. Cravan, is dedicated to supporting, producing, and promoting projects and ideas deemed to be “unrealizable,” “non-conventional” and “No Future”.
