“Perfom! Studio for a performance game” è un gioco sociale sviluppato da Hannes Egger e Denis Isaia. Ben note performance artistiche sono ri-emanate dai giocatori e valutate di conseguenza. Il gioco rievoca performance storiche, disegnando i partecipanti più vicini alle loro radici storiche, mentre allo stesso tempo crea nuove performance.
Perfom! Studio for a performance game” is a social game developed by Hannes Egger and Denis Isaia. Well-known artistic performances are re-enacted by the players and rated accordingly. The game re-evokes historical performances, drawing participants closer to their historical roots while at the same time creates new performances.

L’arte tenta anche oggi di mantenere il suo compito primario di rivelare ciò che non è ancora visibile ma che lo diventerà in futuro o, al contrario, di cambiare i paradigmi riappropriandosi di un presente che guarda avanti attingendo dal passato. MOTHERLODE, vena-madre da cui estrarre il metallo più prezioso, diventa luogo dal quale l’arte può e deve attingere per restituire una visione utile, complessa, stratificata, in una parola “aumentata”, della realtà. Dal nostro MOTHERLODE andiamo ad estrarre il senso delle cose, ci troviamo la Storia, la Politica, la Filosofia, l’Economia, i grandi temi che regolano questo nostro tempo traghettandoci dal passato al futuro. All’inizio c’è stata una frase di Kennedy a guidare l’azione complessiva della costruzione di questa nuova edizione: “things do not happen, things are made to happen”. Abbiamo cercato di tradurla ma in lingua originale ha qualcosa in più, qualcosa di ridondante, positivo, potente, come una formula magica da ripetere l’attimo prima di passare all’azione.

Abbiamo incrociato le parole di Kennedy con la fatica del lavoro quotidiano e di un intero sistema -e Paese-, con lo studio e la teorizzazione della performance art che misura la concretezza nel reale, con la fondazione di una collezione di opere mutuate dalle arti performative, con una diversa forma di festival strutturata attraverso progetti eterogenei ma dalle grandi corrispondenze interne. L’abbiamo fatta passare sulle scrivanie, sui bancali da lavoro, sulla tavolata del pranzo e abbiamo pensato che fosse, in qualche modo, un monito universale. Nei lavori selezionati dalla Direzione Artistica, in quelli che durante l’anno abbiamo amato, prodotto, cercato, scoperto, ritornava prepotentemente il termine “re-enactment”, laddove mancava, c’erano l’azione o l’intenzione a riportarlo presente, nelle modalità più differenti. Un biscotto della fortuna nel quale si trova una frase rivoluzionaria potentissima; 198 metodi di azione nonviolenta imposti su una giovane movement researcher; il discorso del Presidente Barack Obama alla Cerimonia per il Nobel per la Pace rianimato e le tecniche della retorica politica messe a nudo; la cooperativa basca di elettrodomestici Fagor -chiusa lasciando i lavoratori in mezzo a una strada- che rievoca l’assemblea di lavoratori che ebbero lo stesso destino trent’anni prima; una grande piscina in legno contenente 25.000 palline su cui sono incisi dei frammenti di opere stoiche nella quale il pubblico può immergersi e farsi pervadere lentamente dagli aforismi prima di passare all’azione.

Ecco che MOTHERLODE, intende farsi dispositivo generatore di connessioni dove la pratica del re-enactment non si esaurisce nell’atto di rievocare, ma genera forme temporanee di realtà, restituendo azioni, parole ed elementi dapprima destinati ad un’assenza o a una lateralità e ora resi utili ad un pensiero effettivo, ad una azione quotidiana, all’oggi. All’adesso.

Today’s art still attempts to preserve its primary work of revealing things that are not yet visible but will be in the future, or, on the contrary, of changing paradigms by reappropriating a present that looks ahead while drawing on the past.
MOTHER LODE, the rich vein where the most precious metal is extracted, becomes something that art can and must draw on to restore a vision of reality that is useful, complex, stratified, in a word “augmented”. From our MOTHER LODE, we will extract the sense of things, and find History, Politics, Philosophy, and Economy, the grand themes that make up our times and ferry us from past to future. We started with a phrase of Kennedy’s to guide the general construction of this new edition: “Things do not happen, things are made to happen”. It is a phrase that retains a certain quality, at once redundant, positive, and powerful, like a magic spell to repeat the moment before taking action.

We have combined Kennedy’s words with the hard work of everyday, and of an entire system (and country), with the study and theorization of performance art that measures the concreteness of reality, with the foundation of a collection of works borrowed from the performative arts, and with a different form of festival structured around projects that are heterogeneous but which have a great internal coherence. We have passed the phrase around desks, over work benches and lunch tables, and we think that it is, in some way, a universal axiom. In the works selected by the Artistic Directors, and in those we have loved, produced, searched for, and discovered during the year, the term “re-enactment” reoccurs forcefully. Where it was missing, there was the action or intention to include it, in vastly different ways. It is a fortune cookie in which we find a powerful revolutionary phrase; 198 methods of non-violent action imposed on a young movement researcher; President Barack Obama’s speech at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, reanimated, with the techniques of political rhetoric laid bare; the closure of Basque white goods cooperative Fagor, leaving its workers in the middle of the street, evoking the assemblies of workers who faced the same destiny thirty years earlier; and a huge wooden swimming pool containing 25,000 balls, each engraved with fragments of stoic works, in which the public could immerse themselves and let the aphorisms slowly pervade them, before moving to action.

Here is the MOTHER LODE, intended to generate connections, where the practice of re-enactment does not extinguish itself in the act of recollection, but creates temporary forms of reality, reinstating actions, words and elements that had been destined for absence or laterality, and are now made available for an effective thought, an everyday action, for today. For now.
