The project—hosted in one of the most significant examples of military architecture in the entire Alpine region—is a four-part exploration of the concept of togetherness.
The narrative—a form of response to the urgent challenges of the present, from the intensification of conflicts to the spread of authoritarianism, from the climate emergency to the crisis in human rights, from the opportunities of the digital age to the breakdown of interpersonal relationships − asserts that another world is not only possible, but already exists.
Rethinking ourselves as beings who are part of a single global community, founded upon peaceful relations between humans and on a symbiotic coexistence with all that is non-human, is the only path to survival.
FORT biennale 2026 is conceived as a creative, interactive and open platform, a tool for encountering alternative imaginaries beyond the dominant contemporary paradigms: a space for collective imagination through which to practise empathy, listening and community.
Reclaiming Collective is an invitation to overcome the obstacles that create separation: a declaration that alliances, participation and mutual support can offer an alternative to the destructive individualism fuelled by turbo-capitalism.
The works of Italian and international artists—with a particular focus on the creative scene of the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Euroregion—are presented within the Think, Play, Dance and Act sections.
In order to respond effectively to the objectives of the second edition of FORT Biennale, to broaden the exploration of the themes addressed by the narrative and to make the content more accessible, the project offers a series of wide-ranging, in-depth analyses that highlight possible connections between artistic research and the social sciences.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Center for Advanced Studies at Eurac Research—a Bolzano-based applied research institution—and the contribution of Elisa Piras, Chiara Paris, Jenny Ufer, Katharina Gruber, researchers studying the themes of the second edition of the biennial, as well as experts in scientific communication, Reclaiming Collective Extra is conceived as an interdisciplinary narrative introducing each of the biennial’s four sections, offering anthropological, political and historical perspectives.
The open and constructive dialogue between artistic and scientific research, within the complexity of the themes addressed, allows for a multifocal perspective that is capable of uniting multiple languages and voices so as to offer a broad, in-depth and up-to-date vision and thus project the collective imagination towards a future of possibilities.
